Kai Venus
Joinery & Design

About
I offer a joinery, carpentry and design service which operates out of my dedicated workshop in North Herefordshire. I have over ten years of experience in the industry and a deep interest in what it means to create functional woodwork for individual projects. My work reflects not only a commitment to the client’s vision and requirements but a conviction that quality need not be compromised by either budget or the necessity to achieve environmental sustainability, which has been a personal prerogative of mine from the start and was solidified during my degree in Design for Sustainability at Falmouth University. I make use of British grown timber wherever possible and, should this not be suitable for any reason, will use sustainable alternatives, for example Accoya rather than tropical hardwoods.

Approach
My personal aesthetic most readily aligns itself with a combination of the creative ethos of the American Shaker movement of the 18th and 19th century and mid-century Scandinavian design. I also have deep appreciation for British heritage architectural design, from medieval cruck barns to stately interiors. Originality in my work is less important to me than providing a solution that is appropriate to the given context. All my work is, however, marked with a personal enjoyment of creative problem solving and an uncompromising consistency of quality.
